How did you get your foot in the door? "I targeted professional networking events and conferences with the goal of identifying needs and establishing relationships early in my career. A lead I obtained from networking got me in the door of my first computer programming job."

What is your toughest professional challenge? "Like many small companies, our primary focus is on business development so we can provide jobs and grow our client base. Our firm has recently been accepted as a participant in the Small Business Administration's 8(a) program, and this has allowed us to market our products and services to federal agencies. But our toughest current challenge is identifying and accessing the end users at the federal agencies."

What are the characteristics of an indispensable employee? "Be the person that your boss can trust to handle the difficult situation, task or problem. Trust is established by providing consistent quality results whenever a task is given to you.

"A dedicated work ethic, a commitment to quality and a relationship of professional trust will make you the employee that the boss cannot be without."

What are the hiring trends in your industry? What positions? "Datacom Dynamics specializes in the implementation and deployment of positioning systems used by telecommunications companies to provide wireless-enhanced 911.

An FCC mandate has forced wireless carriers to support technology that can identify the location of a wireless handset when a caller dials 911.

"Jobs are being created by the wireless carriers to support E911. Jobs are being created by the companies who assist the wireless carriers with the deployment of enhanced 911 systems.

E911 jobs are being created by the Public Answering Service Points for those who know GIS- and mapping-based applications.

Current positions in the E911 industry focus on application development and support, project management, accuracy compliance and verification, end-to-end testing of E911 systems and E911 education and training."
